The fact that Romney’s decade with Bain Capital shows he’s, at best, callous toward working Americans and, at worst, a threat, is something even a child could understand. A good cartoon.

Chuck Assay illustrates very clearly and succinctly the conservative mindset in this cartoon. While the fat liberal recognizes that he is part of a national epidemic, the fat conservative is making decisions like he feels they should be made: emotionally and with plenty of “I.” (“Who cares if there’s HFCS in everything and it’s making us all sick and dumb and also killing us? You can’t tell me what not to eat, or give nutritional guidance or ensure healthy lunches for kids! Who cares if gays want the right to marry? I’m not gay, and I think it’s nasty! Make it illegal!”) Then he uses that same marvelous navel-gazing to assume that’s how everyone makes decisions: “Academia and scientific experts must just be stupid and relying on their own agendas! That’s why they have a different opinion than mine! My opinion is just as valid!”
Like a fat man who can’t see his own dick beneath his paunch, the conservative can’t see beyond himself. A good cartoon.

Though the progressive caveman will die, his idea of promoting cave bear awareness will lead to his fellow cave people knowing where the bears are located so that they may avoid them. They fare better as a tribe than the conservative cave people, who deny that cave bears exist even while being eaten. A good cartoon.

While Democrats accuse Republicans of being racist, sexist, and bigoted, Republicans have no defense other than claiming that  Democrats are promiscuous, a claim that reveals a great deal about the Republicans’ antiquated views on women and sexuality. A good cartoon.

Panel one: Obama rides high on his health care overhaul until he realizes he has to gut it to survive.
Panel two: A harsh indictment of the superseding role of corporate profit over actual health concerns in the current free market-based system.
Clearly a ringing endorsement for single-payer healthcare. A good cartoon.

In his customary understated fashion, Chuck Asay responds to a talking point memo about the Federalist papers in the WSJ by imagining a scene at an average university library. While contemporary subjects of more interest and relevance to students are kept at ground level, the historical marginalia are stored where they belong, kept cool, dry, and safe deep in the archives. A professor in cap and gown promotes learning about the documents by quizzing the student who went in search of them. It’s important to understand early arguments for federal power over states’ whims, after all.
A good cartoon.

Bonus cliff comic

Most criticism of Obama is about as factual as the myth about lemmings stampeding over a cliff, persisting in popular consciousness despite proof to the contrary. Rather, people devoid of critical thinking abilities rush to embrace it like lemmings over a you-know-what.

A good you-know what.
